The In Practice program supports artists in creating new work for exhibition at SculptureCenter. We invite artists to submit proposals for projects and installations to be presented beginning summer 2007. Artists selected for the In Practice program will receive a $250 honoraria and up to $1000 in production support.

The works and exhibitions created through this series include sculptural objects, installations, performances and artworks that operate between all of these disciplines. All of the lower-level project spaces, the exterior courtyard, the building exterior, the reception area, and stairway are available for In Practice proposals.

Work in all media will be considered and artists are encouraged to experiment with conventional display and exhibition formats. There are no geographic eligibility requirements, but SculptureCenter cannot provide travel, housing or accommodations.

Although the gallery will be closed to the public from November 19—January 7, applying artists are encouraged to visit SculptureCenter on December 2—3 between 11am and 6pm. Building images and floorplans may be viewed and downloaded on our website, as well as previous works presented through the In Practice series.

Proposals will be reviewed by SculptureCenter staff and a panel of artists and curators, who will recommend up to 25 finalists. SculptureCenter staff will meet with finalists and select projects for presentation according to feasibility and schedule.

Submitting artists will be notified by mail by the end of February. No calls please.

To be considered, please mail or hand-deliver the following to SculptureCenter, IN PRACTICE, 44-19 Purves Street, Long Island City, NY 11101 by January 16, 2007 at 6pm. Please note we are not accepting submissions by email.
