Short Stories at the NY Art Book Fair

The NY Art Book Fair 2011 will include special projects, screenings, book signings, and performances, throughout the weekend including The Classroom—a curated series of artist-led workshops, readings, and discussions.

Included in The Classroom program, Short Stories artist Iman Issa will discuss her current SculptureCenter exhibition and new book, 'Thirty Three Stories about Reasonable Characters in Familiar Places'. As well as her interest in settings that are neither language nor form, but liminal and associative thresholds on the verge of becoming places. Presenting previous video and audio work, Issa will appear in conversation with the exhibition's curator, Isla Leaver-Yap.

This presentation will be immediately followed by a reception at SculptureCenter from 7-9pm.

Iman Issa (Cairo, Egypt, 1979) works with photography, video, sound, objects, and texts, to create reconstructed images of personal yet inaccessible places. Her practice explores collective memory, and asks whether place is independent of history and how the frame of the image informs our understanding of context.

Printed Matter presents the sixth annual NY Art Book Fair, from September 30 to October 2, 2011, at MoMA PS1, Long Island City, Queens. A preview will be held on the evening of Thursday, September 29th.
